CME Group Executive Chairman Terrence A. Duffy Honored at Power Lunch September 26
Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) Stuart School of Business will honor Chicagoan Terrence A. Duffy, executive chairman, CME Group, with its first-ever Illinois Executive of the Year Award at the Power Construction Power Lunch at 11:30 a.m. Friday, September 26, at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare, 9300 Bryn Mawr Ave., Rosemont. The award honors one outstanding executive annually who embodies the constructs of strategic competitiveness that IIT Stuart represents: creativity, innovation, entrepreneurship, incisive decision-making, leadership, and sustainability and who, through their leadership and competitive excellence, has made a contribution to Illinois and beyond, serving as an outstanding role model for future leaders.
“IIT Stuart School of Business established this award in order to recognize and honor those individuals that are making a significant positive impact upon local and national economy and community,” said IIT Stuart School of Business Dean Harvey Kahalas. “Terry Duffy’s impact on the Chicago community, and the nation as a whole, make him not only an ideal candidate for this award, but a role model for our strategically competitive business leaders of the future.”
Duffy has served as executive chairman of the Board of the CME Group since July 2007. Recently, under his leadership, the CME Group closed on the purchase and merger of the Chicago Board of Trade. Since October 2006, Duffy has been member of the Board of FXMarketSpace Limited, a joint venture between CME and Reuters. In 1981, he became both president of TDA Trading, Inc. and a member of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. He has served as a CME Board member since 1995.
President Bush called upon Duffy in 2002 to serve on a National Saver Summit on Retirement Savings. The following year, he was again appointed by President Bush and confirmed by the U.S. Senate as a member of the Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board (FRTIB). The FRTIB administers the Thrift Savings Plan, a tax-deferred defined contribution (retirement savings) plan for federal employees that currently has more than 3.5 million participants and $190 billion under management.
Currently, Duffy serves on the Board of Directors of World Business Chicago, the Board of Regents for Mercy Home for Boys and Girls, the Board of Trustees of Saint Xavier University, the Board of Directors of the Illinois Agricultural Leadership Foundation and is co-chair of the Mayo Clinic Greater Chicago Leadership Council. He is also a member of the Economic Club of Chicago, the Executives' Club of Chicago and the President's Circle of the Chicago Council on Global Affairs. Since 2003, Duffy has been recognized as one of the top 100 Irish Business Leaders by Irish America Magazine.
