COUNCIL ON TALL BUILDINGS HOSTS CONFERENCE ON ARCHITECTURAL TRANSPARENCY

Program to feature renowned architects, new technologies

The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) in partnership with Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) will host a two-day conference April 15-16, 2004, on “Transparency, the Art and Science in Building Design,” featuring world renowned experts presenting their latest work, research and ideas.

The conference, approved for AIA credit, will consist of eight sessions, exploring both the art and science of transparency, addressing topics in architecture, facade engineering, new material technologies, structural engineering, mechanical engineering/energy efficiency, blast protection and artistic applications. It is the first conference to be held at the Council’s new home, IIT’s College of Architecture.

The conference, held at IIT’s Hermann Union Building, 3241 S. Federal St., will run from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 15 and 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, April 16. For CTBUH members the registration fee for the two-day conference is $325; $395 for non members; and $40 for students.

Conference registrants are also invited to attend the Structural Engineers Foundation of Illinois’ reception and lecture the evening of April 15. Nicholas Billotti of Turner Construction International will make a presentation on Taipei 101, soon to be crowned the tallest building in the world. The SEF reception and program are free of charge.
