Hospital of the Future conference to be held at IIT’s Stuart Graduate School of Business, July 28-30

Date

Chicago, IL — July 24, 2002 —

An international conference on “The Hospital of the Future: Bringing Together Technology, Healthcare, and Management” will be held July 28-30 at Stuart Graduate School of Business at Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. It will be the second international conference on the management of healthcare and medical technology, the first having been held in 2001 at the University of Twente, in Enschede, The Netherlands.

New technologies, advanced management practices, and the evolving political and social climate of medicine have created a host of transformations in healthcare delivery, creating challenges and opportunities for researchers and practitioners. The conference will provide a forum for scholars and practitioners to explore the profound changes impacting healthcare delivery institutions and the trends that are shaping the future.

The conference is co-chaired by Dr. Elie Geisler, professor of organizational behavior and associate dean for research at Stuart, and Dr. Koos Krabbendam, professor of operations and healthcare management at University of Twente in The Netherlands. An international committee of experts from North America and Europe helped to organize the conference. Featured speakers include Dr. Richard Corlin, president, the American Medical Association; Dr. Dennis O'Leary, president, the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals; Dr. John Lumpkin, director, Illinois Department of Public Health; Dr. Benn Greenspan, CEO, Sinai Medical System; Dr. Peter Vierhout, chair, Association of Surgeons of the Netherlands; Dr. Frank Ferrante, chair, IEEE-USA Medical Technology Policy Committee; and Dr. Stephanie Reel, vice provost, The Johns Hopkins University.

Papers will be delivered in five tracks, covering management of technology in healthcare organizations; information technology (IT); emerging medical technologies; e-health, telehealth and telemedicine; patient value; and emergency medicine. All papers will be included in the conference proceedings, and a selected set will be refereed for inclusion in a special issue of the International Journal of Healthcare Technology and Management.

The conference is sponsored by Hitachi Medical Systems of America, Inc., and United Air Lines, with support by Illinois Department of Public Health.
