How to Become an Architect
“Graduate Program Open House” focuses on graduate studies at IIT’s College of Architecture
Chicago, IL — October 27, 2004 —
Prospective architecture students have a rare opportunity next month to learn more about the graduate degree programs at the College of Architecture at Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT).
Located in historic S. R. Crown Hall, 3360 S. State St., the College of Architecture will open its doors at 12:30 p.m., Nov. 8, 2004, hoping to open minds to its Master of Architecture (M.Arch.) and Doctor of Philosophy in Architecture (Ph.D.) programs. Students, recent college graduates from other disciplines and working architects can learn about advanced degree programs in a series of panel presentations and informational discussions. IIT’s professional degrees are accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board.
The Graduate Program Open House features presentations about the curriculum and studio courses. Student and faculty panels will describe the rewards and challenges of graduate-level architectural studies, supported by the rich architectural legacy of Chicago and the Midwest. A tour of Mies van der Rohe’s masterwork, S. R. Crown Hall, will allow prospective students to observe the studio space, teaching methods and practices of IIT faculty, many of whom are practicing architects in Chicago.
Highlighting the day is a tour of Rem Koolhaas’ widely noted McCormick Tribune Campus Center. The day ends with a presentation by architects Donald D. Powell and Robert D. Kleinschmidt (Powell/Kleinschmidt Interior Architects), “Towards a New Profession: Interior Architecture,” part of the Fall Semester Evening Lecture Series.
Attendees should register with the College of Architecture by Nov. 3, 2004. Online registration is available at http://www.arch.iit.edu . RSVP by telephone at 312.567.5858 or by e-mail to osbornen@iit.edu. Both the Open House and the lecture are free and open to the public.
Founded in 1890, IIT is a Ph.D.-granting technological university awarding degrees in the sciences, mathematics and engineering, as well as architecture, psychology, design, business and law. IIT’s interprofessional, technology-focused curriculum prepares the university’s 6,200 students for leadership roles in an increasingly complex and culturally diverse global workplace.
