IIT Architecture Professor to Exhibit at International Graphics Conference

Date

Chicago, IL — July 4, 2003 —

Robert Krawczyk, an assistant professor at Illinois Institute of Technology’s (IIT) College of Architecture, will showcase several of his computer-generated abstract artworks at the SIGGRAPH 2003 conference to be held in San Diego, Calif. next week.

In its 30th year, SIGGRAPH brings together thousands of professionals in the digital arts worldwide to share information on the latest hardware and software and to display their creations during the weeklong conference, July 27-31, 2003. This year attendance is expected to be more 20,000, including 5,000 visitors representing 70 countries.

This year’s art gallery includes 200 works selected from more than 800 entries covering two-and-three dimensional work, web pieces, and animations. SIGGRAPH covers all aspects of computer graphics in art, science, engineering, and entertainment. The conference also includes juried technical papers and a large vendor exhibition.

Among his works in the SIGGRAPH 2003 art gallery and web expo, Krawczyk will feature a set of images exploring the concept of time in Strange Attractors, a streaming web piece displaying a variety of not so simple transformations of very simple spirolaterals in a flowing manner, and an interactive parody of a Sol LeWitt Wall Drawing.

Krawczyk has presented a variety of digital architectural and artwork internationally, including the SIGGRAPH 2001 art gallery. His explorations center on the development of generative software to better understand the role of the digital in design.
