IIT Names New Dean of Libraries
Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) has announced the appointment of Christopher Stewart as Dean of Libraries effective February 1, 2006.
In his role as Dean, Stewart will provide leadership, planning and vision for IIT libraries to support the university’s teaching, learning and research activities.
Stewart joined IIT in 1995 and, in 2002, was promoted to Associate Dean of Libraries. He has led a wide range of service, technology, and collection development initiatives. Under his leadership, Galvin Library has received several grant awards for the expansion of library resources. He has been invited to present at professional conferences on subjects ranging from information technology to emerging trends in academic librarianship. Christopher received the university’s Excellence in Service Award in 1999.
Stewart holds a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from Dominican University; an MBA from Stuart Graduate School of Business; and a BA in Political Science from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Founded in 1890, IIT is a Ph.D.-granting technological university awarding degrees in the sciences, mathematics and engineering, as well as architecture, psychology, design, business and law. IIT’s interprofessional, technology-focused curriculum prepares the university’s 6,200 students for leadership roles in an increasingly complex and culturally diverse global workplace.
