IIT Professor Michael Gorham Appointed First U.S. Director of NCDEX, India’s Largest Commodities Exchange

The Board of Directors of the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange Limited (NCDEX) at its meeting held on Saturday, May 6, 2006, appointed Dr. Michael Gorham as the Additional Director of the Exchange. NCDEX has an 11-member Board, each an authority in their respective spheres of expertise.

Professor Gorham is Director of the IIT Center for Financial Markets, Stuart Graduate School of Business, Illinois Institute of Technology. The Center for Financial Markets (CFM) offers masters degrees in Financial Markets, traditional Finance and Mathematical Finance. The Center faculty come from ABN AMRO, UBS, HSBC, the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, the Chicago Board of Trade, Hull Trading,hedge funds, equity research groups and regulatory agencies. CFM students from around the world practice leading-edge skills required for success in today's increasingly technical global financial marketplace.

Commenting upon his appointment, Prof. Gorham said "I am both honored and very pleased to be a Director of a growing and progressive institution like NCDEX which has been making a mark both in India and overseas. I am impressed with the vision of their leadership and the quality of their staff. And I think this is going to be a lot of fun."

Prof. Gorham currently serves on the CBOE Futures Exchange Board of Directors, the National Futures Association’s Business Conduct Committee, the Editorial Board of the GARP Risk Review, and the Editorial Board of the Futures Industry Association. He is also Regional Director for Chicago of the Global Association of Risk Professionals.

Nothing replaces real-world, real-time experience to prepare students to lead in increasingly complex, global markets."

Gorham had also served as the first director of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s new Division of Market Oversight, a division of more than 100 economists, lawyers, futures trading specialists and others dedicated to the oversight of 12 futures exchanges in the U.S. He also served for 18 years in various management capacities at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange.
