Three M.S. Finance students from IIT Stuart School of Business were recognized as top performers in the 2013-2014 All-America Student Analyst Competition, sponsored by Institutional Investor magazine. More than 2,100 students from 82 schools participated in the competition.

Xiaobang Wang (MSF ’14) was ranked 24th of the top 100 competitors. Xiachen Wu (MSF ’14) was ranked 78th in the top 100 and was also recognized as 18th in the long alpha ranking. Weiming Ma (MSF ’14) was recognized as a top performer in the sector performance competition, ranking 5th in the Capital Goods/Industrials sector and 3rd in the Energy sector. John F. O. Bilson, Associate Dean, Professor of Finance, and Director of IIT Stuart’s M.S. Finance program, served as the student’s adviser for the competition held from August 2013 to January 2014.

The general competition allowed students to manage a “fantasy portfolio” of U.S. equities to achieve the highest rank in the six categories of performance vs. Russell 3000 Index: volatility, long alpha, short alpha, balance sheet impact, and net exposure impact. The sectors portion of the competition looked at the performance of equities that correspond to the seven sectors in the professional Institutional Investor analyst rankings.

Illinois Institute of Technology was also recognized as one of only 30 schools with more than one student in the top 100. The top-performing students were recognized in the May issue of Institutional Investor magazine and have access to exclusive networking opportunities and job-seeking resources with the investment community.

On behalf of IIT Stuart School of Business, congratulations to all of the competitors!
