Date

Chicago, IL — May 16, 2006 —

Sculptures created by children from 23 schools will be on display at Northerly Island, Chicago from May 19 though October 20. Throughout the 2005-2006 school year more than 800 students from Chicago and the surrounding suburbs were brought together by Do Your P'Art Foundation to create The sculptures, which represent the students' interpretation of the projects overall theme, “Building Identity”, will be exhibited in structures designed and built by students from Illinois Institute of Technology's College of Architecture, under the guidance of professor and architect Frank Flury.

On May 25, 2006 Do Your P’Art Foundation will be hosting a culminating event in celebration of the work and accomplishments of the students. The event will take place at Northerly Island from 11am-2pm; it is free and open to the public. Since its inception in 1995, Do Your P’Art Foundation has been dedicated to supporting artistic, social and scholastic growth for elementary, middle and high school students. Each year Do Your P’Art pairs school groups with students from differing social, cultural and economic backgrounds, to work on collaborative curriculum-based art projects. The organization facilitates the collaborations by providing materials, supplies, transportation to and from sites, artist-in-residence and industry professionals to enhance the students’ exploration of their projects in music, drama, dance and fine art. The art projects are used as a catalyst for learning. Structured to engage young people in discussion, research and collective decision-making, students work together as a team and share the final accomplishment. In breaking down barriers of class, race and economic status, to work together on a common goal, students gain an understanding that they have the ability to transform their physical landscape and cultural landscape.
