Chicago, IL — September 10, 2007 —

Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) students are being asked to show the world their view of IIT and win some cash in the process.

Flix2Clix student video contest, organized by IIT’s Communications and Marketing Department in conjunction with IIT’s Information Technology and Management Program and Digital Media Center (DMC), includes 84 teams of students shooting and editing tape on their own or borrowing cameras and facilities at IIT’s DMC to complete their videos. Students are provided access to stock video footage of scenes around IIT and Chicago created specifically for this contest and music at the contest website. IIT is the first university to sponsor a student video contest of this kind.

“We are thrilled with students’ enthusiasm for this contest,” said Kristine Pasto, associate director of marketing at IIT. “We are looking forward to see what the students come up with. Some students are talking about composing their own music.”

Students will create 2.5-minute videos about IIT and submit them by October 4. A panel of judges made up mostly of students, will select the best five videos, which will then be posted online for the IIT community and the general public to judge October 10-24. The top 3 winners chosen by the public through the online judging will be announced at a November film festival (date TBA).

“The best videos will show creativity and how IIT students are some of the smartest, most hardworking and innovative people in the city, and the world,” says Richard Morrow, IIT’s Student Marketing Advisory Board president. “This contest offers people worldwide the chance to learn more about IIT directly from its students.”

First place winner will receive the $1,000 grand prize; second place, $500; and third place $250. The first-place video will be featured on the university’s website for a year.
