ILLINOIS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY ANNOUNCES NEW ATHLETIC DIRECTOR, COACHES

Chris Meyer has been named the new Athletic Director at Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), replacing Jim Darrah, who retired from the post in June. Meyer has been IIT’s volleyball coach and sports information director for 24 years.

Meyer’s volleyball coaching record at IIT is impressive, an overall win-loss record of 596-240. He has been a member of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Hall of Fame since 1992.

Meyer’s teams have qualified for the post season numerous times, including the 2000 season when IIT appeared in the NAIA Regional playoffs. He also coached 12 volleyball players that have received NAIA All America Scholar Athlete Honors.

Other new coaching appointments include:

Phil Kopinski has been appointed Athletic Trainer & Cross Country Coach. Phil is the former Head Athletic Trainer with the Chicago Rush Arena Football Team. He has also served as Head Trainer of the Muskegon Fury & Winston-Salem Icehawks professional hockey teams. Phil competed in cross-country as an undergraduate at University of Illinois Chicago.

John Fitzgerald has been appointed Baseball Coach. John is the former pitching coach of the Bloomington Twin City Stars in the Central Collegiate League and has coached high school baseball at University High School in Bloomington, IL and St. Ignatius High School in Chicago. He has also worked in Athletic Marketing at Loyola University and Illinois State University. John was a four-year varsity letter winner in Baseball at University of Chicago.

Annie Basic has been named Women's Basketball Coach. Annie is formerly the Assistant Women's Basketball Coach at St. Xavier University. She also was a member of the first Women's Basketball Team at St. Xavier, and has experienced CCAC Conference championships as both a player and assistant coach.
