Illinois Tech Baseball Player Caps Career with NACC Co-Male Student-Athlete of the Year Selection
Ted Howell (ME/M.Eng. MAE ’21) has shone on the field and in the classroom throughout his career for the Illinois Institute of Technology baseball team. The Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference acknowledged his efforts on July 6, when Howell was the named the conference’s 2020–2021 Co-Male Student-Athlete of the Year.
Howell is the first Illinois Tech student-athlete to be selected as an NACC Student-Athlete of the Year. He shared the honor with Aurora University football player Gavin Zimbelman.
To be eligible for the NACC Student-Athlete of the Year honor, an individual must be a graduating senior. Howell graduated with a 4.0 cumulative grade-point average.
A College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) second-team Academic All-American in 2019, Howell finished his career in 2021 as the program leader in RBIs (112) and doubles (43) for Illinois Tech baseball. He ranks second in program history in hits (152) and home runs (17).
A two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District selection and three-time NACC Scholar-Athlete selection, Howell amassed a .407 batting average, 20 doubles, seven home runs, and 43 RBIs during the 2021 season. His efforts this season earned him All-NACC South Division Team, d3baseball.com All-Midwest Region Third Team, and American Baseball Coaches Association All-Midwest Region Third Team honors.
