Illinois Tech to host a symposium focused on media for children and youth
The Developmental Media Lab at Illinois Institute of Technology will host Screen Time, a one-day symposium exploring media for children and youth ages 0-8 on Friday, September 9, 2016 at Illinois Tech’s Downtown Campus at 565 W. Adams Street in Chicago.
The time children and youth spend with screens—whether watching, playing, or learning—has become an area of significant concern. Shifts in media policy and distribution, the development and proliferation of new media forms, and other changes in the media landscape all raise important questions for parents, educators, researchers, and other stakeholders.
The symposium will feature presentations and panel discussions by scholars and practitioners from a diverse range of fields, including early childhood development, children’s television and media, game development, and early childhood education. The full schedule and list of speakers is available on the Screen Time symposium website.
This event is sponsored by TEC Center at Erikson Institute, Kids & Company, as well as Illinois Tech’s College of Science; Department of Humanities; Department of Psychology; Galvin Library; and Lewis College of Human Sciences; Nayar Prize.
Questions about the symposium can be directed to the event's organizers, Carly Kocurek, assistant professor of digital humanities and media studies, and Jennifer Miller, assistant professor of psychology.
