Date

Norman G. Lederman, a distinguished professor of mathematics and science education, and Judith S. Lederman, associate professor and director of teacher education, are plenary session leaders and featured plenary speakers at the National Association for Research in Science Teaching (NARST) international conference. The conference, “Becoming Next Generation Science Educators in an Era of Global Science Education Reform,” will convene in Chicago on April 11- April 14 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.

The plenary session, “Science Teacher Education in an Era of Science Education Reform: A Global Perspective” organized by the Ledermans will feature a six-continent symposium on preservice science teacher education. The session brings together scholars from Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America and South America to discuss how individuals are initially educated to become science teachers.

MSED Ph.D. students Megan Faurot Campanile, Juan Jimenez Pavez, David Santibanez and the Ledermans will also present 14 research papers. NARST president, Valarie Akerson, will formally introduce Ph.D. student Selina Bartels as the newest member of the Board of Directors. Bartels has been appointed graduate student representative to the NARST Board of Directors for a three-year term.

NARST is a worldwide organization of professionals committed to improving science teaching and learning through research. The conference is the largest research meeting on science teaching and learning in the world.
