RARE WEATHER “PHENOMENON” TO HIT IIT CAMPUS

Date

Chicago, IL — September 24, 2002 —

There may be no guarantee of ‘sun,’ but there will definitely be ‘fun’ in the forecast October 4-6, as the Illinois Institute of Technology hosts its Alumnifest weekend, as part of 2002 Homecoming festivities.

Headlining this years’ Alumnifest will be four of Chicago’s leading television weather forecasters, sharing the same forum on Saturday October 5 at 11:00am, for a lively exchange with IIT alums and guests, billed as “What you always wanted to know about the weather but were afraid to ask!” It’s a unique opportunity to see these daily TV competitors come together on the same stage to share anecdotes and enlighten the IIT audience.

The lunchtime roundtable runs from 11:00am-12:15pm at Hermann Union Building, 3241 S. Federal Street, will feature Tom Skilling and Paul Konrad from WGN-TV, Jerry Taft from WLS-TV and Harry Volkman from WFLD-TV. Retired WGN-TV weatherman and IIT graduate, Roger Triemstra, (ME ’52) will moderate.

A second Saturday roundtable session from 1:30pm-3:00pm, also at the Hermann Union Building, features a lively discussion of current planning and redevelopment issues facing Chicago. Is the city where it should be? Are we putting our heads together to plan best for our region's future? How do we intend to build on the legacy of the Burnham Plan?

Panelists scheduled to attend:
Dirk Lohan, Architect, Lohan Caprille Goetsch & IIT Trustee
Ed Uehler, Open Lands Program and Corlands & IIT architecture faculty
Tom Walker, (ARCH ‘77,) Commissioner, City of Chicago Dept. of Aviation
Alicia Mazur Berg, Commissioner, City of Chicago Dept. of Planning
Moderator: Ed Keegan, Architecture Critic
