Rocket Launch at IIT, Friday 7/19
Chicago, IL — July 18, 2002 —
High school students participating in Illinois Institute of Technology’s (IIT’s) Discovery Approach to Science Enhancement (DASH) Program will be launching and studying the behavior of hand-built model rockets on Friday, July 19, from 10:30 a.m. to about 12:00 noon on the IIT Main Campus on Chicago’s mid-South side. The launch will occur in the adjacent soccer field on the west end of the Stuart Building, located at 10 W. 31st Street. Limited metered parking is located on the corner of 32nd and State Street.
Students in IIT’s summer program who aspire to engineering, math and science careers explore various topics in space science during the DASH program.
During the rocket launch, an annual event, the students will be taking engineering calculations to estimate height and distance traveled as part of their summer academic studies.
Student participants, parents, staff and program funders will be available on site to discuss methods of rocket construction, future career aspirations, and future programs.
This activity will be will be the first of several summer program activities featuring Chicago and suburban students interested in math, science, engineering and technology and having fun while learning about future career endeavors.
