Popular Services and Resources for Faculty
Below you will find some of the most commonly used technology resources that are available to faculty at Illinois Tech. For a printable guide to technology resources for university employees, please download the Employee Tech Guide.
New Faculty Members
Please keep in mind that some services cannot be accessed until Human Resources finishes processing your new hire paperwork. For information about hiring procedures, please contact Human Resources at 312.567.3318 or Ext. 7.3318.
Illinois Tech Portal
Illinois Tech Portal is your gateway to many web-based services for Illinois Tech employees and students. Faculty members have the ability to view class rosters, assign official grades, view paystubs and perform other related tasks.
Most computer systems at Illinois Tech use your portal username and password. If you have forgotten your portal password, please use the Forget Password link, which is located immediately below the login button. Once you answer your secret questions, your password will be reset. You can also reset your password by calling (on campus x7Desk) or vising the Support Desk which is located on the upper level of the Galvin Library.
Classroom Technology
There are over 110 technology-equipped classrooms across Illinois Tech campuses. These classrooms consist of an LCD projector or large monitor(s), DVD player, control system, and external device connectivity. We encourage you to utilize the Crestron AirMedia to wirelessly connect your device to the classroom display.
PC Classrooms are hybrid computer labs/classrooms that provide the same teaching experience as regular classrooms, with the addition of individual computers for each student. A PC classroom also provides access to a printing station in the room. There are several PC Classrooms located on the Mies and Rice Campuses and the Conviser Law Center. They can be reserved through the classroom reservation process. Please see the PC Classrooms section below for more information.
Computer Labs
Computers Labs are located across Main Campus. Unfortunately, they cannot be reserved. Instead, please use the PC Classrooms.
Blackboard
Blackboard is an electronic course management system that enables interaction between students and faculty. Blackboard incorporates document sharing, discussion boards, email, an online grade book, assignment drop boxes, chat rooms, small group areas, online quizzes, and more. Access Blackboard via Illinois Tech Portal. Faculty support and training in Blackboard is provided by Illinois Tech's Center for Leaning Innovation. Student training in Blackboard is provided by the Support Desk.
An Illinois Tech email account is provided to all faculty members. You can access your @id.iit.edu (ID faculty), @kentlaw.iit.edu (CK faculty), @stuart.iit.edu (SSB faculty), or @iit.edu (ACE, CoA, CoC, and LEW faculty) email account via the web browser or email client of your choice. You also have the option of connecting your smartphone and other mobile devices to Illinois Tech’s email server. Please see the instructions for setting up your university email on your smartphone or other mobile device, or contact the Support Desk for assistance.
Mobile Phones and Other Wireless Devices
You have the option of connecting your smart phone and other mobile devices to Illinois Tech’s wireless network and Google Apps. Please follow the instructions here or contact the Support Desk for assistance.
Network Connection
If you wish to connect a computer to our network via a wired network cable where one had not previously been connected, a network jack may need to be installed and/or activated. Your department's Budget Manager should submit the network activation request form.

Network Drives
Illinois Tech employees may save data on their Google Drive and share documents as needed.
Ordering Computer and Network Equipment
To order new computers and network equipment, your department's Budget Manager should work with the Support Desk on specific needs and then go through Procurement to place the order. For new employees, departments should place orders at the very beginning of the hiring process. Please allow 28 business days for equipment to be shipped and installed.

PC Classrooms
PC Classrooms are hybrid computer labs/classrooms that provide the same teaching experience as regular classrooms with the addition of individual computers for each student. A PC classroom also provides access to a printing station in the room. There are several PC Classrooms located on Main Campus and they can be reserved through the classroom reservation process.
All computers in PC Classrooms have the same standard lab software that is provided in all computer labs. If the software you need is not on the list, please follow the Lab and Classroom Software request process to have the software installed. Note that software can only be installed between academic terms.
Printing on Campus
Network Printers
Most offices have access to shared departmental network printers. For assistance adding a network printer to your computer, please contact the Support Desk.
Student Printers
The PaperCut system allows Illinois Tech employees and students to print from computers in university computer labs as well as from personal devices. All students receive a set amount of free print credits each semester. When you have exhausted your allotted printing credit, you can add funds for printing via TechCash. To add funds to you TechCash account, please visit get.cbord.com/iit/. Members of the Illinois Tech community can send a print job from their personal device (PC, Mac, tablet or smartphone) to any printer. The Support Desk is your resource for technical assistance via phone, e-mail, and the Web. The Support Desk supports all Illinois Tech networks, telephones, email accounts and software, and will troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software related issues on both Mac and PC operating systems.

Illinois Tech Portal

Your portal ID is basically the login name/username you use to access the portal and other resources. It is the same as the beginning part of your email address. If your email address is abc123@iit.edu, your portal id would be abc123.
Your "A number" or CWID is in the form A01000001. This is a unique number used to identify each university staff/faculty/student. The CWID is used instead of a Social Security number.

An university email account is provided to all staff members. You can access your @iit.edu e-mail account via the web browser or email client of your choice. You also have the option of connecting your smartphone and other mobile devices to the university's email server.
