Understanding Our College Students and Their Families
We recognize that family members are more engaged with their students’ academic experience now more than ever before. This presentation will help faculty and staff better understand the current generation of college students and the needs of their families. In this presentation we will discuss theories relating to college students, understanding first-generation college students, best practices in responding to their needs, and how to work with their family members.
Learning Outcomes
After attending this presentation, participants will be able to:
- Describe some characteristics of the current college student
- Recognize generational differences among college students
- Describe some of the challenges first-generation students may face
- Identify ways staff and faculty can support students and their family members
- Describe some of the characteristics of family members and supporters of our students
- Discuss how faculty and staff can all work together to support our students and their families
Student Conduct and Academic Honesty
This presentation will address Illinois Tech’s Academic Honesty and the Student Conduct processes. This presentation will explain the academic honesty policy, different forms of plagiarism, ways to prevent plagiarism, and what to expect during the student conduct process.

- Describe different types of plagiarism
- Describe the student conduct philosophy
