High school students in the Chicago area can explore their curiosities in computing, mathematics, information technology, engineering, and business through the STEM Café program, offered by Illinois Institute of Technology.
The STEM Cafés present interactive STEM-related activities to high school classrooms that engage eager students’ interest in STEM fields. In this program, faculty from Illinois Tech’s College of Computing, Armour College of Engineering, Stuart School of Business, Lewis College of Science and Letters, and Kaplan Institute instruct high school students in hands-on activities and discussion topics to help them elevate their pre-college and college-ready STEM skills.
The STEM Cafés begin with an interactive tour of Illinois Tech’s Mies Campus in Chicago’s Bronzeville neighborhood, where students connect with faculty and enjoy lunch. The tour is followed by monthly visits to your classroom from faculty, who bring collaborative STEM-related projects that allow students to explore their skills and immerse themselves in related discussions.
STEM Café projects can be designed to align with your high school curriculum, or present topics that are new to students. The combination of hands-on activities, interactive discussions, question-and-answer sessions, and video presentations create an immersive environment where students can discover the possibilities in STEM.
