Irmak Turan is an architect and building scientist examining how urban buildings impact the human condition, material resources, and global climate. Irmak is an assistant professor in the College of Architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology.

Irmak worked for several years as an environmental designer in New York and Istanbul, with Buro Happold and Henning Larsen Architects. She continues to engage with practitioners through applied research collaborations that ground her work in the real-world circumstances of industry, considering the systemic forces that govern the sector. Irmak received her Ph.D. in Building Technology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2020. She also holds an MS in Building Technology from MIT; and a BA in Architecture and a BS in Civil Engineering from Columbia University.
