BINTM Student Receives Two Scholarships from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers

INTM congratulates George Lowery, a current senior in our Bachelor's program, on earning two scholarships —the Kenneth C. Novak Manufacturing Scholarship and the Myrtle & Earl Walker Scholarship—from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) Education Foundation for this upcoming academic year. Lowery was one of 205 students nationwide to receive the 2012 awards.

Lowery describes himself as a non-traditional student, returning to school after many years of work as an engineer, while taking classes and earning several certifications in Automation and Direct Digital Controls, Indoor Air Quality, Heating, Ventilation and A/C through Local 399 Operating Engineers. He transferred to INTM after graduation from Kennedy King College’s Heating, Ventilation, and A/C Program.

The SME Education Foundation is committed to addressing the shortage of manufacturing and technical talent in the U.S. by creating strong partnerships between organizations, businesses, and schools. The Foundation helps to build a comprehensive, community-based approach to manufacturing education, focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)-based education programs supporting workplace development. The SME Scholarships are open to graduating high school seniors, current undergraduates and masters or doctoral degree students pursuing degrees in manufacturing and related fields at two-year and four-year colleges.
