Dean Natacha DePaola Elected Chair of Global Engineering Deans Council
Natacha DePaola, Carol and Ed Kaplan Armour College Dean of Engineering, was elected to serve as Chair Elect of the Global Engineering Deans Council (GEDC). She will serve in the position from November 2016 until October 2017 and will then assume the role as GEDC Chair in October 2017 and serve until late 2019. This newly elected role will provide her the opportunity to make an impact on engineering education worldwide.
Dean DePaola will seek to increase the diversity of the GEDC membership, working towards expanding and increasing participation of engineering deans from developing countries. She hopes to build on international educational and research collaborations that will allow engineering faculty across the globe contribute their knowledge to solving pressing world issues. Dean DePaola also aims to better prepare engineering students to create solutions to contemporary world challenges by creating opportunities to utilize continuous learning throughout their careers.
The GEDC was established in 2008, and has grown to include over 500 deans from over 30 countries, 5 regional chapters and 12 corporate and other partners. The Mission of the GEDC is to serve as a global network of engineering deans and to leverage the collective strengths of the deans for the advancement of engineering education, research and service to the global community.
