IIT INTM Team Wins APICS 2012 Competition

Five IIT students in the Industrial Technology and Management (INTM) Program took first place in the 2012 Chicago Case Competition hosted by The Association for Operations Management (APICS) in October. This was the fourth annual competition, and the fourth time that the IIT team won. The students— Jorge Muriana, Karl Rouze, Jesus Muniz, Swathi Navalpakkam Satyanarayana and Xiyao Zhao — were among four teams from different universities that presented case solutions to a panel of industry judges. As winners, the INTM team will represent IIT at the regional APICS Great Lakes Case Competition in February 2013 where they will compete with more than 20 universities from the Midwest.

This Competition is based on case studies illustrating how industry and business professionals plan for the future. The teams look at questions such as– when does the future start, what will the future look like, what preparations should be made, and when should those preparations be implemented? This year’s teams were given the case of a lip balm company, and asked to analyze its prospects for growth, focusing on international expansion and overseas distribution over the next ten years.

The IIT APICS Student Chapter holds meetings each semester and features guest speakers from APICS. The INTM program will sponsor the first year of student membership for INTM students (requires full-time status).
