Illinois Tech Students Find Great Benefits in APICS Conference, San Antonio, Texas
A group of eleven Illinois Tech students Tech returned from APICS 2017--the Association for Operations Management Annual Conference in San Antonio, Texas-- with much to say about their experience. Several in the group are Industrial Technology and Management (INTM) students from India, China, and Spain. This was their first international professional networking event.
The students heard keynote addresses by John Mackey, Co-Founder & CEO of Whole Foods Market and Derreck Kayongo, Founder of the Global Soap Project and CEO of the National Center for Civil and Human Rights, and had the opportunity to attend working sessions on topics that included Women in Supply Chain, Leadership and Millennials, Blockchain in the Supply Chain, Global Supply Chain Strategy and Global Processes, and End-to-End Supply Chain Visibility with the Cloud and the Internet Of Things.
Networking was a key part of the experience for most of the students. Overall, the conference is a good opportunity for students to engage with the industry on a number of levels. “I especially enjoyed the crowd at the conference; they’re relentless learners and enthusiasts. You can feel the positive energy flood through the venue, and you know you’re in the right place” says Yu-Hsuan Chou, IIT APICS Student Chapter President.
The next APICS Conference will be in Chicago, September 30 - October 2, 2018. The IIT APICS Student Chapter is already helping to get the word out. INTM has been encouraging student membership in APICS and helping organize the activities of the Chapter on campus for several years.
