MSED Doctoral Candidate Promoted to Shedd Aquarium VP

Mathematics and Science Education student Joy Kubarek-Sandor has been promoted to Vice President of Learning, at Chicago’s Shedd Aquarium. Kubarek-Sandor will be awarded her Ph.D. in Science Education at IIT’s May 17 commencement.

Kubarek-Sandor has worked in the field of science education for over 12 years, teaching in a variety of education settings in the United States and abroad. Her research through the years has included analysis of student conversations around problem solving in informal science settings, effectiveness of teacher mentoring programs, teacher perceptions of informal science education, and the effectiveness of zoo and aquarium provided teacher professional development.

Kubarek-Sandor currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Museum Education Roundtable and most recently presented at the South African Association for Research in Science, Technology, and Mathematics Education in Cape Town, South Africa and the National Association for Research in Science Teaching in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
