I am happy to announce an important change happening at the Stuart School of Business. The Stuart School is relocating its graduate programs from the Mies (Main) Campus (MC) to the Downtown Campus (DTC) effective for the Fall 2017 semester. We will remain present and engaged on the Mies Campus, where our undergraduate business program will remain, and we will continue to engage in entrepreneurship and innovation activities, including the new Kaplan Center.

 

There are many benefits to this relocation including increased proximity to companies and employers, expanded industry participation in classes and events, additional internship and employment opportunities for students, and proximity to Chicago’s thriving business district and urban attractions. In addition, DTC is home to two other graduate units of Illinois Tech -- the Chicago-Kent College of Law and the Institute of Design -- providing exciting collaboration opportunities for business students. Meanwhile, we will continue our joint programs, collaborations, and engagement at the Mies Campus -- the best of both worlds.

New and returning Stuart students, please read the information below to see how this move might affect you.

Stuart’s Relocation to DTC: What Students Can Expect

The Stuart School’s relocation to the Downtown Campus will affect students in the following ways. Any questions should be directed to the Stuart Office of Academic Advising.

  • Stuart’s new student orientation (SOAR) will be held on both the Mies Campus (MC) and the Downtown Campus (DTC). New students will receive a schedule of SOAR events and locations upon check-in. The Stuart SOAR schedule will also be posted online within the next few weeks once it is finalized. The University and Office of Global Services SOAR sessions will be held on MC also.

  • All Stuart graduate classes (including ACE and PCA) will take place on the Downtown Campus (DTC) beginning in Fall 2017. Students who have already registered for Fall classes, do not need to make changes to their schedule/registration - the Office of the Registrar will automatically change their schedule in mid-July to reflect the move of their MC courses to DTC. Students with specific questions about their registration should contact the Stuart Office of Academic Advising.

  • All undergraduate classes will remain at MC. The Stuart Undergraduate Program Director, Dr. John Twombly, will maintain his primary office on MC on the 18th floor of the IIT Tower.

  • Stuart faculty teaching mostly graduate courses will have their primary offices on the 4th floor of DTC. Some faculty will have their primary offices on the 18th floor of the Tower at MC.

  • Student Affairs staff including the Assistant Dean for Student and Alumni Affairs, the Office of Academic Advising (OAA), the Stuart Career Management Center (CMC), the Advancing Career and Education (ACE) Program, and others will have a presence at both DTC and MC, holding office hours and programming at both locations. Primary offices will be on the 4th floor of DTC and secondary workspace will be on the 18th floor of the Tower at MC.

  • Please note that MATH courses (or any course offered through other departments that are based at MC) will continue to be offered at MC.

  • Access to university resources such as the Office of Global Services, the Student Health and Wellness Center (SHWC), Access Card and Parking Services (ACaPS), Galvin Library, etc.: All Illinois Tech students will continue to have access to key university resources and all departments can be contacted via email and phone, with many services accessible online. While some departments have DTC office hours, students may have to come to the MC for some aspects of these services.

  • Students are welcome to live in residence halls at MC while taking classes at DTC (there is no university housing near DTC) or to live off campus. There are a variety of on-campus housing options for graduate students and many benefits to living on campus -- convenience, great value, 24-hour front desk service, on-call staff, free cable TV, free Internet service, free laundry, in-hall programming, and much more! The free Illinois Tech shuttle bus makes it easy for students to travel between DTC and their on-campus housing.   • All Stuart students are encouraged to be active members of the Illinois Tech community by participating in MC student organizations, campus events, and dining, library, study, fitness, and recreation spaces.
