Peng-Jun Wan Receives NSF Grant for MIMO Networks
Professor Peng-Jun Wan has been awarded a three-year grant for $270,000 from the National Science Foundation for "Maximizing Network Capacity in Multihop Wireless MIMO Networks".
Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technology provides a means of boosting network capacity without requiring additional spectrum by exploiting spatially multiplexing, interference suppression, and spatial diversity. This technology is a key component of nearly all emerging wireless standards. The subjects of the project are the computational hardness and approximation hardness of maximizing network capacity in multihop wireless MIMO networks, and the development of practical approximation algorithms with provably good performance.
