StartupIIT a Huge Success: Contest Results

Nik Rokop, Industry Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship, and IIT Stuart undergraduate students Jasmin Sturzebecher and Ray Bizauskas, worked with IIT CEO to host StartupIIT, a weekend of idea development and entrepreneurship on October 24-26.

  • Pur-shables was awarded first place for developing a solution to address the billions of dollars of food waste in the grocery and retail industries.
  • BarTap was awarded second place for addressing significant losses of profits and customer satisfaction in sports bars and high-end bar venues. The team included IIT Stuart undergraduate students Samuel Smith and Bartholomew Grabowski.
  • Social Class/Real World 101 was awarded third place for developing a support network for young entrepreneurs who desire to make a difference but lack the resources to do so. The team included M.B.A. student Prakhar Jajoo.

IIT CEO also hosted an elevator pitch competition in collaboration with IIT Undergraduate Business Council. Students pitched their ideas to industry professionals, with College of Science student Sunny Shah taking first place for Social Class; Chicago-Kent College of Law student Elizabeth Zubiate taking second place for Pur-shables; and Armour student Michael Johannsen taking third place for BarTap.
