Two School of Applied Technology IPRO’s win in the fall Illinois Tech Interprofessional Projects Program (IPRO) Day

Energy Efficiency Strategies for Chicago Buildings (IPRO 213) won the best project for the Energy and Sustainability Innovation Track 10. This IPRO centered on conducting an energy audit of Farr Hall and proposed several viable energy improvements. Dr. Dan Tomal, INTM was advisor and Aaron Grudowski (CE) was the team leader. This IPRO will be continued into next semester where the team will compete in the national National Electrical Contractors’ Association (NECA) again nearly 40 other universities.

Electro-Mechanical Underground Utility Vault Design (IPRO214) won the Dean’s Choice award for the School of Applied Technology (SAT). This IPRO focused on developing a monitoring system for detecting utility vaults conditions such as CO2, gas, temperature and humidity, pH, and water level. Dr Dan Tomal INTM was also advisor for this IPRO and Zubin Fanibanda (ITM) was the team leader. The development of this project, using processors, sensors, and Arduino, was done in the new School of Applied Technology Smart Tech Lab. “Besides the unique technology, I loved the way the students divided into sub-teams and worked together to accomplish their goal,” stated Dr. Bob Carlson, SAT Dean.
