UPDATED: Commencement 2015 Inclement Weather Plan
The weather forecast is now predicting severe thunderstorms and lightning. If this is case come tomorrow, and weather conditions require the Armour College of Engineering (ACE) Ceremony seek shelter and be held indoors off of the baseball field, we have developed three inclement weather plans, detailed below.
1. In the event of severe weather conditions (i.e. severe thunderstorms, lightning)
If the conditions are unsustainable for an outdoor ceremony on the field, there will be an immediate announcement made by Dean DePaola over the loudspeakers during the main ceremony. It will be also communicated via IIT Alert (you must be signed up for this feature). If this determination is made, the below plan will be put into action:
Students - report to back to the Commons where you initially checked in that morning. Here you will be lined up and prepped for the indoor ACE Ceremony which will be streamed to multiple locations
Guests - The ACE Ceremony will be streamed live via the web. Guests will be able to view the ceremony on any web connected device. We will also have projected screens at various indoor ACE Receptions on campus, where food will be served. Below is the breakdown of where each departments' guests should congregate based on space requirements. Graduates will join their guests at these locations after the ceremony.
ChBE & BME - Hermann Hall (HH) Ballroom
CAEE - VanderCook Concert Building
ECE - Engineering 1 (E1) Auditorium and Atrium
MMAE - McCormick Tribune Campus Center (MTCC) Ballroom and Auditorium

Diploma pick-up will be back at the Commons beginning only 45 minutes AFTER the start of the ACE Ceremony. Valid ID required. If you are unable to pick up your diploma, it will be mailed to you. During this move to the various points on campus, we will have volunteers wearing red shirts to direct attendees.
2. If the weather turns quickly DURING the Armour ceremony
If the weather become severe during the Armour ceremony to the point that it cannot continue outdoors, Dean DePaola, Armour Dean of Engineering, will make an announcement to all that we will adjourn. Students should go to directly to the Carman Building to pick up their diplomas. The Dean or Department Chairs will be in the McCormick Tribune Campus Center (MTCC) Ballroom with the photographers for pictures with the students who were unable to walk the stage before the weather turned. Guests/families should proceed to their cars.
3. In the event of light rain
The Armour College of Engineering's commencement ceremony will still proceed on the baseball field. There will be rain ponchos handed out at the gates. Guests/families should still plan on wearing appropriate garments for rain. The reception, which will immediately follow the Armour ceremony, will still be held in a tented area on Gunsaulus Field, which is between Gunsaulus and Carman Halls (just south of the ceremony and 31st Street).
For those who cannot withstand the rain, the Stuart Auditorium will be available to view the Armour's commencement ceremony. There will be volunteers (wearing red t-shirts) ready and willing to guide you to the auditorium. Please note that the auditorium only holds 200 people, so we ask that only the people who really need to be indoors go to the auditorium.
