Yong Zheng, Ph.D., Presents at 2 Conferences

Date

Yong Zheng, Ph.D., Senior Lecturer, Information Technology & Management, recently presented 'Adapt to Emotional Reactions In Context-aware Personalization' at the ACM Recommender Systems conference and also gave a 3-hour tutorial talk at the IEEE/WIC/ACM Web Intelligence Conference at Omaha on 'Context-Awareness In Information Retrieval and Recommender Systems'.

10th ACM Conference on Recommender Systems
15th-19th September 2016 in Boston, MA, USA

Yong Zheng, Ph.D., presented 'Adapt to Emotional Reactions In Context-aware Personalization' at the ACM Recommender Systems conference. RecSys is the premier international forum for the presentation of new research results, systems and techniques in the broad field of recommender systems. Recommendation is a form of information filtering that exploits past behaviors and user similarities to generate a list of information items that is personally tailored to an end-user’s preferences. As RecSys brings together the main international research groups working on recommender systems, along with many of the world’s leading e-commerce companies, it has become the most important annual conference for the presentation and discussion of recommender systems research. RecSys 2016, the tenth conference in this series, was held at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the IBM Research campuses in Boston, MA, USA. There were participants over 550 who came to present their findings.
Yong Zheng spoke about how users may have different emotional reactions but have similar rating behaviors ultimately. Results and analysis on emotional regularization have also been presented.

IEEE/WIC/ACM International Conference on Web Intelligence
13th-16th October 2016 in Omaha, Nebraska, USA

Yong Zheng, Ph.D., gave a 3-hour tutorial talk at the IEEE/WIC/ACM Web Intelligence Conference at Omaha on 'Context-Awareness In Information Retrieval and Recommender Systems'.
The Web Intelligence (WI) 2016 conference is dedicated to Artificial Intelligence (AI) to celebrate the pass of the sixth decade since AI was ever introduced to the scientific research community by our pioneers. Aiming at creating computers and computer software capacity of intelligent behavior, throughout the sixty years' journey, many amusing achievements have been made.
Zheng spoke about Information Overload in the information age and how we may want to escape from the overload. He has presented solutions on Information Retrieval and Recommender Systems. He defined Context-Awareness as the adapting to the changes of the contextual situations to build smart applications and has successfully applied this concept to ubiquitous computing and mobile computing. One major motivation he talks about is maximizing user experience.
