The Department of Food Science and Nutrition (FDSN) conducts research at the intersection of science, technology, engineering, and regulatory compliance within the food industry.
FDSN faculty research a variety of issues involving food and its production, ranging from discovering its nutritional benefits to developing safer environments to produce it. Seven FDSN faculty members host labs, and the department utilizes to the Center for Nutrition Research to determine the health benefits of food and food components.
Students within the food science and nutrition department have a multitude of opportunities and avenues on which to conduct research, whether they are on thesis or non-thesis tracks. These opportunities allow students to receive invaluable first-hand experience as FDSN regularly works with and conducts research for the United States Food and Drug Administration, U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the food industry.
