In accordance with the Illinois School Visitation Rights Act, employees who have been employed for at least six months and at least half-time are entitled to a total of eight hours of unpaid leave during any school year, and no more than four hours on any given day, to attend school conferences or classroom activities related to the employee’s child, if the conference or classroom activities cannot be rescheduled during non-work hours. However, an employee must exhaust all accrued vacation or personal days before taking School Visitation Leave. Employees must also give at least seven days’ advance notice to take such leave.
