Mission and Vision
The Ed Kaplan Family Institute for Innovation and Tech Entrepreneurship believes that higher education is best realized when applied to positive, practical change. We exist to equip Illinois Tech students for a journey from scholarship to practice, so that they can drive positive change for their communities and the world.
We have a vision of an evolved tech landscape in Chicago, shaped by a new generation of tech leadership who is more entrepreneurial, more community-minded, and more diverse. Its mission is to guide Illinois Tech students on a direct path to becoming Chicago’s next tech leaders.
Our Values
Cross-Disciplinary and Cross-Cultural Collaboration
The Y in DIY is a plural. No one goes it alone. Those who find a common cause rise together.
Different skills and experiences lead to new and better ideas. Keeping everything the same only results in more of the same.
Market Relevance
Theory is fine, but keeping a focus on the market is better.
As we march toward a post-COVID-19 world, we are at a crossroads. Tech professionals should feel a moral obligation to address society’s most pressing needs.
Practicality
We are doers. We don’t just imagine, we build and have a strong bias toward action.
